What you need

  • Allen keys 4, 5 and 6 mm
  • Assembly grease – metal frames only
  • Tape measure for the saddle height
  • Clean cloth for wiping

Step by step

  1. 1
    Remove the old seatpost

Open the seat clamp with the right Allen key (usually 5 mm) and pull the old seatpost and saddle up and out. Note your current saddle height first – the easiest way is with a piece of tape.

Pro tip: Is the post stuck? Spray some penetrating oil on the clamp area and wait 5 minutes.

  2. 2
    Clean the seat tube

Wipe the seat tube thoroughly inside and out with a clean cloth. Dirt and old grease residue prevent the new post from sitting correctly.

    • Inside: wipe out with a dry cloth
    • Outside: clean dirt off the clamp
    • Check for cracks or damage
  3. 3
    Choose the right adapter

Measure the inner diameter of your seat tube. The Alpensattel seatpost is 27.2 mm – if your tube has a different diameter, use the matching adapter from the pack.

Important: The adapter must be pushed fully over the post before you insert it. Pushing it on afterwards damages the clamp.

  4. 4
    Insert the seatpost

Slide the seatpost straight into the seat tube. Watch the minimum insertion depth – the "MIN INSERT" mark must disappear completely into the frame. Then set your usual saddle height.

  5. 5
    Mount and align the saddle

Place the saddle on the upper clamp and align it straight – parallel to the top tube. Tighten the bolts evenly in a crosswise pattern. Then set the tilt: a level saddle is ideal for most riders.

    • Tighten the bolts evenly in a crosswise pattern
    • Set the tilt to 0° (level) at first
    • Adjust by 1–2° later if needed
  6. 6
    Adjust the suspension

Use the adjustment ring at the lower end of the seatpost to adapt the damping to your weight and riding style. Clockwise = firmer, anticlockwise = softer.

Recommended setup: First ride a test loop on a medium setting. If the post sinks in a lot when you sit down – set it firmer. If you feel no damping – set it softer.

Safety: The seatpost must be inserted into the frame at least up to the “MIN INSERT” mark. Otherwise it can break.

Which diameter fits?

Thanks to the included adapters, our suspension seatpost fits almost any bike. The base diameter is 27.2 mm, with adapters included for 30.9 mm, 31.6 mm and 34.9 mm. Before mounting, measure the inner diameter of your seat tube – it's usually printed right on the frame.

Thanks to the three included adapters, the Alpensattel seatpost fits all common seat tube diameters – whether MTB, e-bike, trekking, gravel or road bike.

Frequently asked questions

My seatpost keeps slipping down – what can I do?

Tighten the seat clamp on the frame a little more. If that isn't enough, check that you're using the right adapter and that the clamping surface is free of grease. With carbon frames: use a special carbon assembly paste, no grease.

Which direction is "firmer" on the adjustment ring?

Turning clockwise makes the suspension firmer, anticlockwise softer. You'll usually find a "+" and "−" marking on the ring.

Can I also fit the post in a carbon frame?

Yes – but then use a special carbon assembly paste instead of grease and only tighten the seat clamp to the torque recommended by the manufacturer (usually 4–5 Nm).

How high should the seatpost be set?

Rule of thumb: with your heels on the pedals, your legs should be fully straight at the lowest pedal position. When you ride with the ball of your foot on the pedal, there's then a slight bend in the knee.
