Want to mount your new bike saddle and ride off right away? This guide shows you how to attach the saddle correctly – simple, quick and safe. Whether city bike, e-bike, MTB or road bike.
Why correct saddle mounting matters so much
A wrongly mounted saddle can cause pain when cycling, knee or back problems and unsteady handling. That's why it's crucial that your bike saddle is mounted and adjusted correctly – above all in height, tilt and alignment.
The right saddle is what counts – even with perfect mounting
Even if your saddle is mounted correctly: if you've chosen the wrong saddle type, the best alignment won't help. Every riding style and every seating position has different ergonomic requirements.
Which bike saddle suits you?
- Sporty, slightly leaning posture? Then a narrow, longer saddle like the Alpensattel 3.0 Sport PRO is ideal – for MTB or trekking, for example.
- Low and aerodynamic on a road or gravel bike? Then you need maximum performance with a model like the Alpensattel 3.0 Race PRO.
- Relaxed and upright on an e-bike or city bike? Then a comfortable, wide saddle like the Alpensattel 3.0 Komfort PRO is the better choice.
A wrongly chosen saddle leads to pain, numbness or poor posture – even with perfect mounting. If you're unsure, the Saddle Finder leads you to the right model in just a few questions.
After mounting: check height and tilt
The seat surface is level, the nose of the saddle lines up with the top tube. For height, use the heel test: heel on the pedal, leg straight at the lowest point. If you then pedal with the ball of your foot, you keep the right slight bend in the knee.
If it still hurts after mounting
Then it's usually not the mounting but the saddle width. The distance between your sit bones decides which saddle fits – here's how to measure it at home.
You have 30 days to test your Alpensattel in real-life riding. If it doesn't fit, you get the full purchase price back.
