To make sure your Alpensattel and your functional clothing last a long time and work reliably, the right care is essential. With a few simple steps you protect them from wear, weather and loss of function.
How to care for your Alpensattel properly
Cleaning
Wipe the saddle down regularly with a damp cloth – this removes dust, sweat or splashes. If needed, you can use a little mild soap or bike cleaner. Then wipe with clear water and rub dry.
Important: Do not use harsh cleaning agents or scouring pads – they can damage the cover material.
Protect from the weather
- Don't leave it standing in the rain for hours: Even though the saddle is weatherproof, the padding can soak up water – this affects comfort and durability.
- Don't leave it in direct sunlight for long periods: UV radiation can make the material brittle or cause it to discolour over time.
Tip: Use a water-repellent saddle cover or cover the bike when it's parked outside for a longer time.
Proper storage
Ideally, your bike stands in a carport, garage or bike cellar – dry, shaded and protected. If you won't be using it for a while: cover the bike or protect the saddle separately.
Care instructions for functional clothing
Before washing
- Turn clothing inside out to protect the surfaces.
- Brush or shake off coarse dirt beforehand, especially with gloves.
Washing
- No fabric softener – it destroys the breathable membrane and the water-repellent surface.
- Do not use heavy-duty detergent or bleach.
- Use a mild detergent or a special sports detergent instead.
- Do not wash together with strongly dyeing garments.
Drying
Do not tumble dry. Instead, air dry at room temperature, ideally laid out flat and not directly on the radiator.
Care after washing
Refresh the waterproofing: especially with waterproof clothing, it can make sense to renew the waterproofing with a spray after several washes.
Storage
- Do not store damp. Clothing should be completely dry before you put it away – ideally in a dry, airy place, not in a plastic bag or box.
- Do not store scrunched up, so that membranes and coatings keep their function.
